The Summer Youth Theater Collaborative, our thrilling 4-week program for teens vigorously worked 5 days a week, 6 hours a day from July 11th through August 5th, 2015 at Pascack Hills High School in, Montvale, NJ. Their amazing efforts paid off in a magnificently stage production of the Tony-winning musical, In The Heights. Our group thrilled audiences with stellar performances on August 5th, 6th, and 7th. The bonds our participants made this summer were evident in the bittersweet tears that flowed at the closing cast party!
In The Heights was presented through special arrangement with R&H Theatricals: www.rnh.com.
Development ofIn The Heights was supported by the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center during a residency at the Music Theater Conference of 2005. Initially developed by Black House Productions.
The Summer Youth Theater Collaborative is made up of two components - the Performance Program and the High School Internship Program. These Programs fabulously worked together to mount our production, making it truly a Youth Theater Collaborative! Participants found there's a role for each of them, be it on stage or behind the scenes.
About the Show!
In The Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. In The Heights is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations!
